Gemtag is an inventory and label-printing app for jewellers. It is built so that your business data stays with you. We do not operate a server, we do not have accounts, and we never receive your inventory, prices, customer records, or photos.

What Gemtag stores, and where

On your device. Products, companies, folders, prices, stones, photos and printer settings are stored locally on your iPhone or iPad.
In your own iCloud, if you turn it on. Enabling iCloud Backup in Settings syncs that same data through your personal iCloud account so your devices stay in step. This uses Apple's private CloudKit database, which is tied to your Apple Account. The developer of Gemtag has no access to it and cannot read it.

Information we collect

None. Gemtag has no analytics, no advertising, no tracking, no crash reporting service and no user accounts. Nothing you type into the app is transmitted to the developer.

When Gemtag connects to the internet

The app makes only one network request during normal use:

Currency exchange rates — Gemtag requests published rates from open.er-api.com at most once a day, and only to convert prices between currencies. This request contains no personal data and no information about your inventory; it simply asks for the current rate table.

Gemtag also communicates with your label printer over your own local network (Wi-Fi or Ethernet, TCP port 9100). That traffic never leaves your network and does not pass through any server of ours.

Camera and photos

Camera is used only to scan barcodes and QR codes so you can find a product or run a packing check. Frames are processed on the device in real time; no image is saved or transmitted.
Photo library access is used only when you choose to attach a photo to a product. The photo is stored with that product on your device (and in your own iCloud if sync is enabled).

Backups and exports you create

When you use "Back Up Now" or export a product list, Gemtag creates a file and hands it to the standard iOS share sheet. Where the file goes is entirely your choice — Files, iCloud Drive, Google Drive, email, AirDrop, or anywhere else.

Backup files are plain text (JSON) and are not encrypted. Anyone who opens such a file can read all of the product, price and customer information inside it, even without Gemtag installed. Keep these files somewhere you trust.

Subscriptions and payment

Gemtag Pro subscriptions are sold and processed entirely by Apple. Payment is charged to your Apple Account. The developer never sees or receives your payment card, billing address, or Apple Account credentials, and receives only aggregate, anonymous sales reports from Apple.

Children

Gemtag is a business tool intended for jewellery retailers and is not directed at children.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, the updated version will be posted on this page with a new date at the top. Because Gemtag collects nothing, changes are expected to be rare.
